[ARCHIVED] Smoke Testing Notice for Local Residents

UtilityTechnologies_logo

Utility Technologies, under contract with the Town of Thompson’s Station, will be conducting smoke tests in the next few days within your neighborhood as part of a program to detect failures and leaks within the sewer collection system.

The smoke generated during these tests should not enter your home if the plumbing is in good condition.  You may see smoke coming from the roof vents, which is a normal occurrence.  In most cases, any smoke that enters a house is through faulty plumbing or through fixtures which are not regularly used.  Therefore, we request that you pour water into all infrequently used fixtures to ensure all the traps are full of water.  These include baths, sinks, toilets, floor/basement drains, and washing machine drains.

If smoke does enter your house, you may report it to the crews working nearby.  Opening of doors and windows should quickly dissipate the smoke.  If desired, the crew will do a quick inspection of your residence to locate the problem area in your plumbing.

The smoke being used is made specifically for this purpose.  It appears white and has a slight odor of mineral oil.  It is not a fire hazard and leaves no residue.  The smoke is non-toxic but may cause minor throat irritation if inhaled in quantity.  Therefore, persons with respiratory conditions such as asthma or bronchitis should leave their residence if smoke should enter their home.  Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause you.  Please contact Mack Shults with Utility Technologies at 615-916-7217 should you have any questions regarding these tests.  Thompson’s Station’s contact regarding these tests is Kenny Bond at 615-794-4333.
