Following a COVID-19 outbreak among staff at Deer Run Camps & Retreats in Thompson’s Station, the camp has decided to cancel its summer youth camps.
The camps senior director, Fred Reyes, remains hospitalized in intensive care as he fights the virus.
During staff training in late May, two staff members found out they had been in contact with persons who tested positive for COVID-19.
All staff members were tested for the virus and tests revealed that at least 32 more staff members tested positive.
While most of the staff had mild symptoms and have recovered, Reyes is hospitalized.
In a media release Thursday, the camp announced it would cancel all summer camps and events.
"With the difficulty of so many operational dynamics not being able to be completely controlled, the Deer Run leadership team with the support of their board of directors announced to their staff and camper families the difficult and painful decision to cancel all 2020 day and overnight summer camps for kids and youth," the release said.
The camp informed over 60 college students and young adults that the summer camp was canceled and other layoffs and reductions have been made...."
